The Shop

A craft shop, not a haircut chain.

The vast majority of barbershops you've sat in were built on a model that pushes apprentice chairs at a discounted price. The math on the model only works if the shop is full of people learning on you. Crown & Blade does not work this way. Every chair on our floor is a master barber with a minimum five-year apprenticeship behind them, all six paid on a salary, none on commission.

That means you don't sit down and find out you've been routed to whoever is behind chair four. It means you book your barber by name, you pay the same price for any chair, and you get the same standard regardless of which Wednesday-walk-in slot opened up.

The shop runs on vintage Wahl Magic Clip and Andis Master tooling, hot-towel rituals, scissor-only finish work, and a strict twelve-minute reset between clients. Walk-in Wednesdays are the only day we accept off-the-street guests; the rest of the week is by appointment only.

Doctrine

Four columns of the craft.

The standards every cut is held to, from a Tuesday booking to a Wednesday walk-in.

— 01

Vintage tooling

Wahl Magic Clip, Andis Master, Andis T-Outliner, Feather artist straight razor. Maintained on the floor — clipper blades stripped weekly, shears sharpened quarterly.

— 02

Hot-towel ritual

Every cut starts with a steamed-towel scalp ritual. Every shave gets three towels, two lathers, a two-pass blade. The ritual is the cut, not a flourish on the cut.

— 03

Twelve-minute reset

Twelve minutes between every appointment. Sweep, sterilize, fresh capes, fresh towels. The chair is reset — your barber is also reset.

Booking transparency

Book by name, see real availability, pay the same regardless of chair. No upsell at the chair. We do not staff a sales position; we staff barbers.

Marcus Vega — owner, Crown & Blade
The Owner

Marcus Vega.
Twenty-one years cutting.

Marcus learned to cut at his father's San Juan barbershop at age thirteen. He moved to New York at twenty-one, worked six years on the chair at a now-defunct Williamsburg shop, and opened Crown & Blade on Bedford Avenue in 2016 with one rule: every chair would be a master barber, paid a living salary, on a strict twelve-minute reset.

The shop has hired exactly six barbers in ten years. None have left. Two have brought their kids in for first cuts. Marcus still cuts thirty-two clients a week from chair one and won't take an interview that requires he leave the shop floor.

"My father told me a haircut is a half-hour where someone trusts you with their face. Don't be casual about it."— Marcus Vega
Questions

Before your first cut.

Walk-ins?

Wednesdays only, 11 AM — 6 PM. First-come, first-served. Wait times in the morning are usually under twenty minutes; afternoon can run an hour.

Booking window?

Online booking opens Sunday at 9 PM for the following two weeks. Most chairs fill by Tuesday. The waitlist is real — we work it in real-time.

Do you do color or chemical work?

Kit handles all color, gray-blending, and chemical processes. Book her chair specifically. The other five barbers do not offer color.

Kids?

Saturdays only, twelve and under. We pace the room differently to allow for kid-paced cuts.

Tipping?

Not expected. Our barbers are on a real salary and full benefits. If you want to tip, the team appreciates it; if you don't, the price is the price.

Package deals or memberships?

No. We do not run packages, memberships, or punch cards. The price you see is the price you pay.

Can I bring a photo?

Always. Bring three. Tell us which two you'd be okay with if the third is a fit your hair won't hold.
